Most music blogs try too hard.

This one does not.

“The second collaborative album by the jazz composers and instrumentalists is a searching meditation on resistance and revolutionary potential […] Like an astrophysicist, he discovered that time is malleable—not the neutral medium in which a piece develops, but an integral part of the composition.”

~ Taken from a Pitchfork Album Review

I shit you not, the above excerpt was the first album review on Pitchfork’s website when I wrote the words “Most music blogs try too hard.”

For as long as I can remember, I have had an incurable addiction to finding and sharing new music. I’d like to think it’s genetic, especially after watching my dad fry the work computer in our house as a child by burning countless CD’s with illegal LimeWire mp3 files. Deliverance by Bubba Sparxxx echoing throughout the house on a weekly basis. Anyway, my music-digging journey over the years has flowed through treacherous waters, hardly staying afloat through blogs & websites burying their music rec’s so far under (undeniably great) writing, you sometimes leave the site not remembering the actual songs or albums that are being praised. Don’t get me wrong - I also come from a family of writers, and it would be remiss of me to disservice this dying art. But just play me some good tracks, damnit!
Well, this website aims to do just that. Roll the Records features music suggestions from as many genres and moods as possible - updated weekly. You might not like all of it, and you definitely have not heard most of it - but hey, I did the digging so that you don’t have to.
All of this is to say: By all means, do your own research and take that journey through the high waters of musical literature if you'd like.

But if you need a life jacket - we’ve got you. Enjoy.
